The programme provides access to marine life survey data through the Internet. You can search and view datasets by species or by location using the SEABED mapping tool. The data displayed shows species counts, abundance or presence absence as well as any physical data (e.g. depth or substratum) where provided.
The MarLIN team import data from professional surveys and amateur recording into a standard database structure. The data is collated and catalogued within the Data Archive for Seabed Species and Habitats (DASSH) (http://www.dassh.ac.uk). All data is validated before it becomes available. The data is then displayed on the Web site and also feeds into the UK National Biodiversity Network Gateway ( www.searchnbn.net ). The Gateway allows data collated by MarLIN to be viewed against other surveys and mapped.
The MarLIN team coordinate the DASSH project and, together with the MBA, are partners within the Marine Data and Information Partnership (MDIP). |
