| MarLIN has established a reputation for the timely delivery of contract
research and information resources concerning the marine life of Britain and
Ireland. Typical contract outputs can be viewed on the reports page and the Web
site.

MarLIN undertakes contract and grant-aided projects in the following areas.

- Management of and public access to marine life survey data (see Data
Access)
- Translate or enter marine life survey data in Marine Recorder format for migration to
the National Biodiversity Network (NBN).
- Preparation of biology and sensitvity key information reviews on marine species,
biotopes or habitats (e.g. see species or biotope information).
- Preparation of reports on the sensitivity of marine habitats to environmental impacts,
for EIA, CEA or SEA (e.g. see our contract
reports).
- Advice on planning and development activites in coastal and offshore waters.
- Geographical information system (GIS) services in either ArcGIS or MapInfo:
- mapping the location species or habitats sensitive to a variety of marine activities; and
- mapping marine survey data.
- Design and management of recording schemes, including:
- preparation of tailor made Identification Guides (see ID guides), and
- on-line recording schemes (see recording).
- Educational resources, including:
- on-line information resources, and
- organization of field trips for schools in Plymouth and the surrounding areas.
- Design of user-friendly Web sites for the management and dissemination of information.
- Contributing to training courses for environmental protection and management.
